Is the new budget deal good for the economy, good for the Congress, and good for the political futures of those who vote for it? Or not?

I believe the new budget deal is not a good choice; in opposition to the fact that we're in the stance of a unlikely shutdown again. The noticeably important non addressed issues were avoided. Medicare and Social Security vitality was not discussed which will bring more future problems upon the economy. Instead of only thinking about today; more people should be focused on what consequences will be received upon our actions. There is a loophole, parties can say they will raise spending and cut the loss without proposing new taxes. No matter what the GDP will hit a negative effect in 2014. I think that the new budget is a quick fix for the government but I feel that it will not be good for the future. By finally agreeing on a budget deal does give hope that the future of our economy may be fixed eventually. Although I think that the new budget could be better I think it is the best for Congress right now because of all the time going back and forth they finally agreed on something saying that it is what is best for the people right now. It is good to know that they are looking out for what is best for the people. The budget deal is suppose to prevent another government shut down, which is good but it is not going to fix the economy in the way that most people would hope for. Even though it may not help the future problems of the economy it just proves to our country that both sides are able to work together to come to an agreement, which is a big step for our country right now.

I think the new budget cut looked good, just to fix the government at the time but in the future it will not be good. One positive about the new budget is that we now know that the congress will be willing to come together and agree with eachother. Although, Medicare and social security was not discussed. In the long run this will not be good because there is a loophole, parties will raise spending and not propose new taxes. This purpose of this deal is to prevent another government shutdown. All in all I believe this new deal all looks good on paper, but will come back to haunt us.

I think the government took the easy way out on the budget deal. It gives an idea of false hope for the people. However, I feel like it is good for Congress because it makes it seem like they can actually work together. If the budget deal doesn't work out well, the people who voted for it are going to be criticized for taking the easy road.

I believe the new budget deal is a good deal temporarily, it is good that the congress was able to work together to form a deal, although social security and medicare was not handled in this deal. This deal will come to haunt us eventually as not closing in on a deal of medicare or social security will create problems in the future, causing another government shutdown.

I think the new budget deal is good for the economy, the politicians, and Congress in the short term like everyone else said, because it shows voters that the politicians havword compromise in their vocabulary, but in they long term it might make them look bad again

I think that the new budget deal is a good choice. We will now be able to focus on the important issues and other problems that we are facing in society and not have to put them off or worry about the possibility of another shutdown. Shutdowns delay the progress that our country can make which is why I think that not having one in the next two years puts us in a good situation to attempt to fix important problems.

I think the new budget deal will be good in some ways and bad in others. It doesn't include medicare and social security, but it will also help the economy without raising taxes. I feel like the deal was done to just stop the government from being shut down. I feel like this deal might hurt the economy or make it better, it's up in the air.

Unknown said...

I feel that the new budget was the easy way out for the government. They decided to pass a budget without considering what effect it will have on the future. It prevented a shutout but did not address issues such as medicare and Social Security. This may have been only a quick fix but it is a big step right now.

How do we attract more jobs to our shores? How do we equip our people with the skills needed to do the jobs of the 21st Century? How do we make sure hard work leads to a decent living? The Budget presents the President’s plan to address each of these questions. The idea of Obama's new budget plan after the government shutdown has good ideas and goals. By growing the economy and strengthening the middle class, I believe we are on our way to a decent start. But who knows.

I think that the new budget deal is good for now but will not be good for the future. It shows that at least Congress can get together and agree on something. But this budget deal really didn't talk about Medicare and Social Security which is going to be a major deal in the future. This seems good now but I think it will not be too good in the future.

Unknown said...

I believe the budget deal is a step in the right direction. The economy, congress, and politicians all benefit in way by this deal. The debt ceiling has been raised to prevent future deadlines. This also proves both parties can make a bicameral decision. As our government grows stronger our economy has a greater chance of becoming stronger. In a way it is a chain reaction. This may only be a temporary fix, and may need to be readdressed in the future.

I believe the new budget cut will be fine for now. It discusses some good points and shows that the parties are able to finally come together and get something done. It does lack some major spots though, such as Medicare and Social Security. Those will have to be fixed in the future but for now I think it will be fine.

Unknown said...

I believe that this budget is not a good thing. Yes, it is a good thing for the economy now by providing for some stability, good for Congress to get some momentum, and good for incumbents, but this is a short term good. It's temporary. To be frank, I believe that what the deal was was just kicking the can down the road. Congress didn't touch entitlements or tax revenue increases, which are the things that are highly contested between parties. That's the budget the United States deserves, but not the one it needs right now.

The budget deal may help in some ways but may not help in the long run. These government officials vote for things without thinking/knowing both sides of topics. Similar to the votes to take away our 2nd amendment, these politicians don't think about the future or what it will be like for average citizens. It of course didn't talk about Medicare or social security, but hopefully it'll strengthen areas like the middle class but for now I think it is just a quick fix to try and avoid another shut down

I believe that the budget deal is good, but it is only a temporary fix. The deal will reduce the defict and won't raise taxes. This plan only can keep a government shut down from happening for two years. Finally being able to come togther on both sides for a plan for the future is a step in the right direction anyways.

Unknown said...

I think that the budget deal accomplished more good things then bad and therefore should be seen as a positive. It is good that Congress came up with a compromise before the next deadline. In this compromise the deficit was reduced which is always a good thing. There could have been more accomplished in this deal however. Most notably Medicare and Social Security were missing from the deal. This is still going to be a big problem that will need to be addressed in the future.

I believe that the new budget deal is mainly good. It could make more negative effects as of for the future but for right now it will help improve things. We do not have to worry about another government shut down because the congress reached a compromise before the deadline and now we will be able to focus on other problems. However, Medicare and Social Security should have been involved but it can be dealt with later but hopefully soon.

Unknown said...

I think that the new government solution was just a quick fix to cover up the bigger problems. It looks good on the surface, but the deep rooted disagreements in congress are still there. This is evident in that neither Social Security, Medicare nor Medicaid were addressed in this bill. These are extremely large areas of the budget and show that Congress is still not in full agreement. It is good that they were able to come to some surface level agreement to prevent government shutdown and to appease the masses, but I don't think that this will hold up in the long run. So it helps the economy and Congress in the short term, but definitely won't be helpful for the future.

I believe that the new budget deal should be looked at as a good thing. Even though there are still some issues such as social security, there are other advantages to this bill such as lowering the deficit. All in all, I see this new budget deal as a good because it does more than nothing.

The new budget deal was not a good or a bad law to be put in place for the economy. However, it was probably very good for the republicans and the view of the do-nothing congress because now they've actually done something. Granted, it was after an entire government shutdown, but still. It also makes Paul Ryan look good, and also may show his wanting to run for president in 2016 when Obama's second term is up.

KyleThurow said...

I think the deal isn't what America needs to fix it's economic problems but in what it means for the bipartisanship of congress is what America needs. It helps the Republicans politically after the disastrous shutdown and it makes Paul Ryan look very good. It shows he may have a strong drive for a 2016 presidential run. This is hopefully a good sign in more bipartisan deals in congress which was the real point of the bill. it was far more politically motivated then true law making.

I think the new budget deal might be temporarily good for the economy and the Congress but not the political future. Health care and social security are two important issues that the new deal does not address but happen to be stressing out the voters. This deal will probably help right now but not in the long run.

Unknown said...

While the new budget deal is a temporary fix, I believe that it is a positive step forward. It shows that Congress can work together and get things done before a deadline. It marks an important moment of bipartisan cooperation, while paving the way for further compromise. However, the new budget deal does not adequately address national debt or other fiscal burdens of the United States. The impending issues of Medicare and Social Security are still well on their way to causing future economic problems. By not addressing these important issues, the deal may prove to be almost entirely insufficient. Thus, the people who vote for it may be putting their political futures on the line. They face the possibility of being criticized if it is not a success. Regardless, if Congress continues to work towards compromise, the likelihood of a future government shutdown is diminished. For the sake of our nation's economic and overall well-being, I hope that adequate agreements will continue to be made.

I think the new budget is good for the United States now but not in the long run. It shows that they can reach agreements but it doesn't take about the more heated topics of today's society. So in the long run it isn't the best thing but for now it will be good for the United States.

I think the new budget deal is good for the country. It show that compromise is possible between the two parties. It will give us time to focus on bigger issues without the fear of another government shutdown. By avoiding that, it will give us time to fix the underlying problems that are causing the most conflict. Although it didn't address the topics of Medicare and Social Security, it buys time for the two parties to find solutions for them.

Anonymous said...

I believe in a long run, this is not a fix for a growing problem. I do believe that congress is showing signs of bipartisan cooperation, yet only to advance personal or congressional gain. I believe many people are disappointed that it also does not address enormous portions of the national debt, Medicare and social security.

Unknown said...

I believe that the new budget is not going to help the economy at this moment. Although this budget does give a sliver of hope that our economy will be eventually fixed, the only thing the budget really benefits right now is Congress. It shows that Congress can actually work together on something. I think that the people who voted for this budget will take big hits if it ends up not benefiting the citizens of America.

Anonymous said...

I believe passing a bipartisan budget would make politicians look good, but it may not help the economy at all. Congress needs to show the public that they can pass measures and can possibly fix the economy. Like what many others have said, I don't believe that it will fix our long term problems.

Unknown said...

I believe the new budget deal will be good and bad depending on what is going to be done. The good involves benefiting the overall economy. The bad consists of not mentioning social security or medicare at all. More will need to be done as the budget deal will only help temporarily.

Anonymous said...

I believe that the budget deal is good for short term, but in the long run i do not believe this deal is a good idea; however, I also don't believe that there is anything else that congress could have done, I guess we will have to see how things play out in these next couple months.

Unknown said...

I think that the new budget deal is not a good choice for our country. The Congress took the easy way put by passing a budget that will not work for the country in the long run. Though the actual passing of the bill may show that Congress can work together, it also shows that some politicians are only looking to fix the present, and not the future.

Nick Berger said...

I think that passing the bipartisan budget deal is a fast solution to the government shutdown problems. Since it doesn't address social security, medicare, and medicaid we will see those issues in future bills. This deal simply pushed the problems into the future. Short term it is good, but long term it is bad.

Unknown said...

For the time being i believe that the budget deal is okay. I feel as if it was just for a quick temporary fix in the multiple issues that need to be covered. This way, it gives Congress more "by-time" to get other priorities straight and then be able to revisit the budget.

Anonymous said...

I don't think that the budget is good for our economy. Sure it may work for right now,but if we don't plan for the future our country will not get very far. The new budget gives America hope that the economy will turn around. It is also good that Congress finally agreed on a budget, so hopefully in the future, they can agree to improve the budget and ultimately the economy even more. Hopefully the future of our economy will be bright if the Congress can keep compromising, and hopefully there will be no more shutdowns any time soon.

Unknown said...

I think that the new budget deal is good for everyone. Until recently, I believed that a budget deal would be almost impossible between the two parties and we could face another shutdown. This deal shows that it is still possible for congress to compromise, and it is good for the economy, which suffered during the last shutdown. It is good for most politician's futures because people like to see the government in Washington DC work after so much fighting. Unless they are in a very far left/right wing district that hates compromise, they should not be harmed by making such a deal.

Anonymous said...

The new budget deal is good for the time being. This deal caused the government to end the shutdown which is a good thing. However, this deal was made under pressure and neither side agreed. The risk that our country was in without our government running was the reason the deal was passed. I feel that the next deal will need to be improved upon. I wouldn’t necessarily say the new budget deal is good for the economy, congress, or the political future for those who voted for it because it is a temporary filler. Again, because the government was shut down, a deal needed to be made quickly even though the content in it may not have been completely agreed upon by both parties and chambers.

I believe that the new buget deal was a start to good future. One because the politicans finally argreed on something, but a lot of major issues were avoided.

I believe this budget deal was meant to show America that the government can work together. There were compromises made between the Republican and Democratic parties in order to have an agreed budget. The budget failed to include large scale issues such as Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid that have been dividing our government and citizens. To me, this means the budget was meant to look good from the outside. I do believe that budgeting is good and having a plan for the future economy can be beneficial, but the bigger spending issues also need to be evaluated.

Unknown said...

I think the new budget is good for Congress because know they are starting to work together and compromise. However I don't think it is good for the economy because it did not address any of the large issues like Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid. I think that this budget was just a quick way to settle things which could be bad for the future. However it is good because we don't want another government shutdown.

Nic Blommel said...

I think the new budget deal is both and bad because while it shows that democrats and republicans can come to a compromise, it fails to address done of the biggest issues that we have, as pretty much everyone else has said

Having a new budget deal is a good temporary solution for the government. It will help some problems. However, this isn't a long term fix- I think that we will have more short-term fixes before we get a long-term solution, since its hard for everyone to compromise on such prominent issues.

Unknown said...

I feel like the new budget deal will not help the economy in the long run. If the deal does not end up working out, the voters who were for it will start to look for a bigger fix since the other was an easy way out.

Anonymous said...

I believe the most recent budget deal is an okay decicsion. The shutdown needed a resolution that was not going to be complete either way. The budget proposed is a definite short term problem solution and is not going to last. A more complete budget will need to be created sooner or later, in cause to this the odds are the government will shut down again over budget like decisions. Overall a temporary fix.

Unknown said...

@Austin L what were some of the major issues that Congress chose to avoid? Do you think it would've been better if Congress had still made this compromise, but addressed at least one of these issues? Or was it better to avoid all possibilities of conflict?
