i was very surprised at how skilled of a baseball player barack was...ok not really he cant throw very good at all it was quite awful. i also learned that he is a lefty. a lefty filled with hope and the willingness to change and one that is a liberal. it sounds an awful lot like tim tebow. yes contrary to all of his religious fanaticism(? is that a word) he actually considers himself quite liberal. so see barack obama is directly in sync with timmy tebow. maybe barry obama will go down as the greatest president ever just like tebow is the best COLLEGE qb ever

Personally I dont like baseball, but seeing as the sport is considered "Americas passtime", it is kind of an interesting tradition for each president to throw a pitch during a game and have the entire baseball watching population see how well they can throw..

run on sentence. dont care, haha.

First of all, I would trust Tim Tebow in a clutch situation far more than Barack Obama. But I'm a bit leary of all left-handed people.

The concept of the first pitch, I think, is quite stupid. It's usually someone who can't throw very well, is just there to please a company or be a symbol for something, and makes an idiot of themself when he/she can't even get the ball to the plate. That being said, there are some moments in sports that can truly bring people together. As much as we complain about what's happened since, the night George W. Bush threw out the pitch at Yankee Stadium and gave the thumbs-up to the post-9/11 crowd was very special. Other instances--the Olympics uniting North and South Korea, the Saints returning to the Superdome to jumpstart the struggling New Orleans area, the late coach Jim Valvano giving a passionate speech about fighting cancer--make sports a significant facet of society. There is a certain pageantry in them that can spark a light in the hearts of people.

Well, I think it's fantastic that the president and the lowly proletariat can get together and enjoy a game of baseball. I think it's a fun thing Obama can do to relate to his constituents, especially in an era like this, where sports are so omnipresent in our society. As for the fact that Mr. President has a little bit of difficulty hitting the strike zone, I'm sure the fans don't hold it against him. Not many of them could do that either, especially with the pressure of millions and millions of eyes on you, talk about stage fright. POTUS can speak under these conditions, he's used to it, but him pitching is like Randy Johnson giving the state of the union.

Personally, I think Randy Johnson would give a pretty awesome State of the Union...

Well, it seems as if Barack's ability of throwing a baseball is still better than his ability as being the United States President.

I think this is a cool tradition. I would have liked to have seen more pictures. Does anyone know which president this tradition started with?

Diana said...

This tradition is nice because most people watch baseball occasionally and if not they might tune in just to see the president.

haha what james said. but most ceremonial first pitches are quite dreadful president or not.

Ok, so Obama can't throw a baseball. But I can say that I would have liked to be at that baseball game. I would rather see the president throw out the first pitch then someone like Danny Gokey.
