As the fiscal cliff approaches, republicans and democrats are still butting heads. Personally, I think that no action will be taken until after the fiscal cliff. Huffington post stated the fact that the cliff is more of a gentle slope and I think politicians are aware of that. The two parties will both have to make concessions (Democrats and social programs, Republicans and tax cuts) but these concessions will most likely not occur until after the new year. Once the fiscal cliff policies take effect, the parties will have an even higher sense of urgency and be more apt to negotiate. Right now, the progress that has been made is little but at least the parties are open to working together. As the issue becomes more urgent, the parties will be pushed to cooperate and lets face it, if the government goes over the cliff, both parties go with it.

i think that action will be taken after the fiscal cliff. The cliff isn't that big and polticians know what is happening. each party has to sacrafice something or concede something but wont happen until 2013. there needs to be more progress faster as the issue gets larger.

I think that at this moement we are nowhere. These talks have been going on for a very long time, and since the House Leader (Boehner) says we are nowhere, then most likely Congress is nowhere. He is involved in all of these talks with the House and with the president, thus he is credible. However, I beleive that in a few weeks (right after Christmas) a deal will be made before the new year. There is too much at stake for the repuatations of the Rep. House, Dem. Senate, and the Dem. executive office. Both parties would lose trust from the public (the people whose taxes would raise).

At this point, I feel like we are just treading water. Democrats and Republicans have been fighting over this for so long that a solution is bound to occur soon. Once the new year begins, I feel like both parties will come to a census (IT'S ABOUT TIME). If a decision isn't made soon after the New Year many will loose faith in any decision will be passed, from now on.

I think that we will not get a deal before it happens. The Republicans and Democrats will continue to fight and argue until time runs out, even though the "communication lines stay open"- Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest. But once time runs out the two sides will come together, make concessions, and then reach a new deal.

as the fiscal cliff approaches i don't think action will be taken, i think the republican and democrats will continue to but heads until they run out of time. therefore peoples taxes will rise and spending cuts will be put into effect. it this happens the parties will not be trustworthy in the public's eyes.

I feel that we are currently nowhere. No deals have been made and with only 22 days left, I don't think that a reasonable deal will be reached. I think that with aftermath of the cliff, both parties will be pressured into a "grand bargain"

No way there will be a deal before the dreaded and sensationalized "fiscal cliff." The main disagreement between Republicans and Democrats is which way tax rates should shift. This dividing issue will be fought passionately by both sides, preventing any real "deal."

I believe that we are nowhere in the current state that we are in. Neither Democrats or Republicans have persuaded enough people to favor their side. Also neither of them seem to be making a big push before the fiscal cliff therefor I don't believe an agreement will be reached until after the fiscal cliff. There' s just not enough time before, but I believe after the fiscal cliff they will act more efficiently and come up with a conclusion to solve the matter at stake.

I think that we are going nowhere. Democrats and Republicans are not going to come up with a conclusion until after the fiscal cliff. This is because neither the Democrats nor the Republicans are willing to budge and compromise. They will need to work together because neither have a large enough majority to reach a conclusion. At the moment they are not working together, and I think this will continue until after the fiscal cliff.

I think that we are currently nowhere. The Republicans and Democrats have not been able to come to a deal with each other. The deal will come after the fiscal cliff.

Republicans and democrats aren't progressing much as the fiscal cliff approaches. House leader (Boerhner) stated that we are no where, so I don't believe action will be taken until possibly after the fiscal cliff. Hopefully after the New Year both parties will finally reach an agreement.

I think a deal wont be done becouse they are to far apart on the negotiations. I believe both parties however want to get a deal done in fear of being blamed for possible repurcussions of the fiscal cliff.

I do not think that there will be a decision reached before the fiscal cliff. the republicans and democrats will not agree to anything until they have no other option but to work together. either way the affect of the arguing of the republicans and democrats will tarnish the reputation of the government in the eyes of the american public.

WIth the fiscal cliff coming up, I do not see a decision being made. Both parties will continue to fight, which will allow us to lose faith in our government. As we loose faith our economy will drop. It will also drop because of the rising of taxes. I believe in Boerhner, we are going nowhere.

Niether party can agree on anything and keep changing their standing views on the issues at hand, hopefully everything works out with the new year and an agreement can be made so we can actaully "move forward".

I believe that a deal will not be completed between the two parties until after new year's. Both parties will have to come to a compromise dealing with the social programs and the tax cuts. Once the act takes effect, I believe the sense of urgency between the two parties will go up and they will have to strike a deal. For now, it is going nowhere.

Republicans and Democrats have just over 2 weeks until the January 1st deadline. President Obama and John Boehner have met multiple times to discuss the fiscal cliff, yet very little progress has been made. I highly doubt a deal will be reached until the sense of urgency pushes both sides to reach an agreement.

I do not believe that republicans and democrats will be able to reach a deal before the fiscal cliff. The two parties have been doing a very poor job compromising to make progress in Congress. A deal will most like happen after the fiscal cliff when both sides realize something must be done to solve the dilemma.

Unknown said...

I dont think a deal will be made before the deadline, both parties are fighting for power, and arent going to be able to comprimise untill something with a huge affect on our country will happen. This will most likely de after the fiscal cliff.

Unknown said...

I do not believe a deal can be mustered at this point; however, I feel that democrats and republicans will be able to compromise on what taxes will rise in the near future, after the fiscal cliff.

Unknown said...

I don't believe that the parties will reach a decision by the deadline, I do believe that sometime in the near future that the republicans and democrats will have to meet each other half way or otherwise nothing will get done in Congress.
