It seems as though Americans as a whole have "won," as this bill benefits both the employed and unemployed. This also could help Obama win votes in the upcoming election.

I believe that both Democrats and Republicans, as well as all US citizens, can claim that a win on the payroll tax cut extension. I say this, because the Democrats got their way in having the tax cuts extended; and, according to the New York Times, the Republicans got their way as well: "Republicans gave up on their demands that the tax cuts be paid for. But they won provisions that would pay for the other spending increases in the bill by making cuts in other federal programs involving health care and government pensions." American citizens can claim a win, because this means that they will be paying less money for a longer period of time. Therefore, I believe that this is a gain for everyone. However, the Democratic party can claim the biggest win due to the fact that the bill is now being placed in the hands of President Obama.

Although the article suggests that basically everyone wins due to this bill being passed, I would say that Obama is the biggest winner. He is the one signing it and he will get the most credit for it simply becuase he is the president. It makes him look good in the eyes of both Democrats and Republicans (politicians and citizens). This is something that people will remeber when they vote and it could also be a good thing to use in his campaign.

I think that the Americans benefited the payroll tax more. 160 Million Americans were helped by this bill, and that's almost half of America. Also the US Government would save money which could help lower the budget deficit. They said it would raise the budget deficit; however, it would reduce it over time, which in turn, would benefit the Americans. Although I believe that the Americans won, Democrats also had a victory because President Obama signed the bill.

I think everybody won in this on the payroll tax cut extension, because I think it's important for both parties helping create jobs and helping Americans. This bill probably will stimulate the economy and the people will give Obama the highest credit for it (because he is signing it and he's the president) which could help him in the upcoming general election.

The United States citizens won because of help for both the working class and the poor, but the biggest winner would be Obama coming to "save the day" on the economy. Him, being president, signing the bill would help him win over or back the people for his votes he lost due to economy. Also it may help him get more votes in the coming election, if America believes he's right for the job.

From reading the article, I noticed that, as Paige said, the Americans have claimed the biggest win on the payroll tax cut extension. I beleive this is true from what Senator Max Baucus said. He exclaims that, "One hundred sixty million Americans, that’s the number of Americans who are helped by this bill." This comment proves that a large number of Americans benefit from this provision.

I think that the Democrats won this battle. They got more of their policy points pushed across than the Republicans, who were more for fiscal responsibility that providing people with funds that we don't have as a nation. More government benefits is a Democrat ideal that was a major part of the bill, so Democrats take the cake on this one.

Although both parties won from the payroll tax cut extension, as it says in the article the Democrats were able to push more policies forward with the bill than republican. This payroll tax cut extension will help the American people at large though as "one hundred and sixty million americans will be affected by this bill". So the Democrats have claimed the largest win, however both parties and there constituents will be helped by the bill.

It seems to me that both parties benefited equally in this bill and neither side came out as the biggest "winner". Both sides "won"

I think that Obama is the biggest winner because by doing this, he will gain more public support and people will think that he is saving them money giving him a nice advantage in the 2012 election. I also think that all citizens win because they are ultimately are paying less to the government on their salaries. However I feel that our government could really use more money instead of less. The debt just keeps piling up.

Even though it seems like everyone won, I would say that the Democrats could claim the biggest win because they were able to push more policies through than the Republicans. Essentially, it will benefit everyone because many Americans will be helped through this payroll tax cut extension. However, because President Obama signed the bill he makes himself and the Democratic party look good so the Democrates came out with the win overall.
