I don't think that the supercommittee can achieve their goal. Although Obama has created new jobs, he doesn't seem to have done much to reduce the nation's debt. Seeing as the deadline is 10 days away, if he hasn't done much in 3.5+ years, he most likely cannot push others to help decrease debt in such a short time.

I agree, I don’t think that the supercommittee can come up with a plan to raise revenues and reform federal entitlement programs such as Medicare and Medicaid. There is just not enough time and too much money is being cut out to do it. I think that Medicare and Medicaid should just be cut all together because it will fall apart due to the retirement age dropping and there will not be enough money left over for all of us.

I do not beleive that the supercommittee will be able to make a plan to acheive their goal before the deadline. I think this because their it costs to much and there is simply not enough money plus, the deadline is too short.

I don't think that the supercommittee will be able to achieve their Thanksgiving Day goal. There is not enough time to properly budget a savings of $1.2 trillion. Obama has not done much in his past term to allow this to be on time. If the plan fails, people will begin to distrust the government to get anything done.

I believe that the supercommittee will not be able to reach their November 23 deadline to come up with a plan to reduce the national debt of 1.2 trillion dollars. I believe that they will be unable to reach this goal because they have been given a pretty lengthy amount of time to get this task done, and so far they have not really shown any signs of getting close to the goal. Another reason I believe they will not reach their goal is because it seems like right now that the Republicans and the Democrats are unable to negotiate a plan to get the job done.

I think theres very little chance that the supercommittee will complete its task. with the deadline being a little over a week away, $1.2 trillion is way to much to cut. Maybe if both parties would stop bickering and work together they may have been able to at least make some head way, but alas, it's foolish to think that might actually happen.

I do not think that the supercommittee can meet their Thanksgiving deadline. It appears as though the two sides cannot come to an agreement and in a way are unwilling to come to an agreement. For example, when the Republicans offered to compromise with the Democrats with a $300 bilion tax increase over 10 years to increase revenue, the Democrats killed the idea leaving the committee virtually at square one. With the deadline quickly approaching, and no end to the arguments in sight, I don't believe a compromise will be made.

I don't really think that the supercommittee will reach its Thanksgiving deadline. The views of the Democrats and Republicans are drasticaly different and i just don't think it's possible for them to reach an agreement tht quickly. This has been a topic for debate for years, and each time the debt ceiling just gets raised higher and higher and I wouldn't be surprised if that is what happens again. There's just no reason that this time will be any different.

In my opinion it is very doubtful that the supercommittee will complete their task. In this case, the Republicans and the Democrats are so far apart on what they believe that it is not likely that they will come to an agreement within 10 days. The Democrats would like to raise the taxes and have across the board cuts which includes cuts in defense. Contrarily, the Republicans do not want to raise taxes and will not cut the defense. One of the biggest things that the Republicans do not want to cut is defense and that is what the Democrats would cut when they cut taxes across the board. Also, they are dealing with way too much money being shuffled around at one time to agree where all of that money should go within 10 days. Unless there is a drastic change in opinion from either side, it is very unlikely that the supercommittee will complete its task before the deadline.

I hope that can the supercommittee can complete its task before the deadline, but I don't think that can happen. The amount of money concerned here is $1.2 trillion, not $1.2 billiion. Even the Medicare and Medicaid are cut all together, I afraid that it's still hard to reach the goal. American are already distrust the government. If their beneifts are being cut more, the distrust would increase more.

I also don't think the super committee will be able to achieve their goal, but for the sake of the country I really hope they do. If the super committee fails to meet there goal and the trigger is activated there will be massive cuts to the national defense budget. With soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan and Iran not to far a way from making a nuclear bomb this is not the time to cut defense spending.

I dont think the supercommittee will meet its deadline in respect that the national debt hasnt even began to decrease yet and it dosnt look promising.

Seeing as the supercommittee has not made any progress since this plan was proposed, I do not think they will be able to meet their deadline. There is just not enough time to raise revevnues in one week. Having said this, the supercommittee should be more open to new proposals, rather than only focusing on the goal that they have now. There is too much at risk (national defense) with the current proposal.

I do not believe that the supercommittee will meet its Thanksgiving deadline. I believe that there is just not enough time and too much money to obtain their goal in the proposed deadline. They have been given a lengthy amount of time to get the proposed task done, and they have not really shown any positive signs that would signify becoming closer to the overall goal. I believe that this is in large part due to the fact that in America right now, Democrats and Republicans have not set their differences aside and negotiated a plan to get the job done.

I do not believe that the supercommittee can achieve their goal. Since they are a bipartisan group there are varying opinions. With only 10 days left I do not think that these opinions get sorted out into a common goal. I agree that if President Obama has not taken care of this in 3.5 years he will most likely not be able to accomplish his goals by the end of the Thanksgiving deadline.

In my opinion, I believe that the supercommitte will be able to reach their goal on time. I think that it is also vital for them to complete the task because it will help Medicare and Medicade to make money. This is true becasue it says in the article "...lawmakers to reach an agreement that would both raise revenues and reform federal entitlement programs such as Medicare and Medicaid." It is important that they reach the deadline so that increasing the revenue is still a managable goal. Additionally, it will look better, to the people, that the supercommittee is true to their statements that they will have the task completed before a specific deadline. Also, this would put more trust in the peoples' minds that the supercommittee is doing a good job. Overall, yes, I am hopeful that the supercommitte will complete its task before the deadline.

I don't believe the "supercommittee" will be able to meet the deadline. Mostly based on the facts that the two parties differ on there idealogy and also the fact that they are standing firm to there beliefs because election season is coming up and they need to rally their base. I and i believe alot of other people think politicians need to set aside their differences and actually solve the problems at hand. Our government is what makes this country great but it also can destroy us.

I believe the supercommittee will not be able to come to a conclusion for this "duty" or "goal". While the Republicans have come up with a plan it has been simply to raise revenue in static tax gaining only 250 billion dollars of the Tax payers money. However this is not accepted by the Democrats due to its lack of funds. Due to the fact that we have not come upon a solution in years past it seems almost foolish to expect a plan to save 1.2 trillion dollars could be formulated in a mere 12 days.

I am hopeful that the Supercommittee will complete its tasks by the deadline because that will be good for the nations economy. However, I don't expect it to complete the tasks because it is a bipartisan committe that is made up of people very strong in their conflicting beliefs. This means that they will argue a lot, not agree on anything, and ultimately not accomplish much.

Andrew Salo said...

It would be good for the economy if they are able to come to a decision by wedesday, so I do hope that they can, but I don't think it will be done. I don't think it will be done because they ran out of time.

I am not hopeful that the supercommitte can achieve their goal due to lack of ideas that have shown up on the table. There hasn't been one for sure option (that I know of) of how to handle this debt crisis that we have on our hands. If thats not bad enough the supercommitte can't even get something to use from Obama himself which worries me deeply on how long we can ride the trillions of dollars we owe without it tumbling down on top of us.

I do not think that the supercommittee will be able to meet its deadline. Over the past decade we have lost many jobs, and the economy has not been doing the best. Today President Obama has created more jobs for American's than have been lost. Another reason i believe they can not meet the deadline is because the thanksgiving break is coming up to fast and they just have to much to get done before then.

The "supercommitee" appears to be a waste of time. I think the attempt to add bipartisian people was a partially good idea. I think intense arguing and hashing out problems is the only way to get a soloution done. It may take time, but if it is done right, and both can agree isnt it worth it?

Big Al said...

To answer the question of why not, the power is too spread out. The bipartisian have a lot of power, which i think is good, but i believe the Republicans, and Democrats may not enjoy the spread of power and just give them another topic to argue

I believe that the supercommittee will not be able to complete their task by the deadline because first, its too short of a deadline and second, they just don't have the funds to complete it by that short amount of time.
