The president plans to overhaul education. What are your opinions of his five priorities? (Remember: no cussing!)

I like that he wants to really overhaul education instead of just changing some policies or funding. I think it's quite obvious that American public education is a joke and that Americans are falling desperately behind in educational statistics.

I'm also surprised to see Obama get tough with the teacher's union; quite odd for a liberal, but shows that Obama wants to make this work. Overall, I'm pretty pleased with overhauling education. We just need to get the financial market baggage off first.

President Obama's plan to overhaul our education system "from the cradle up through a career" sounds promising. It's good that he wants to raise the level of educational standards throughout the country but doing this isn't going to be quick or easy. I don't think strengthening early education programs is going to help improve our standards. President Obama should focus more on his plans for helping students get into college and making it more affordable.

It is good that Obama wants educational standards to be higher. the USA is falling behinde on the world scale of education, HOWEVER, the LAST thing we need is MORE SPENDING! We must conserve our money and put it to more practical uses. Paying for more nurses and teachers i feel is unessesary to accomplish the goal of being the top competeter in the education race around the world.

I really like the idea that Obama wants to overhaul education. America needs a tougher school system that prepares kids for life in a much better manner. I do agree with the video too that as kids get lower test scores teachers drop their standards. The teachers are then protected by union for their actions and not much can be done. I don’t particularly like the charter school idea though because I believe it does take away from public schools. In addition, some people really can’t afford to go to a charter school.

This is a hard thing to do though. This plan is held up by FEDERALISM. (Sorry for the swear.) The states largely control school policy. All the federal government can really do is decrease funding. It is up to the states to actually implement the plan. And of course this comment is aimed at TylerDL. This actually initially causes less spending federally.

I believe Obama's plan to overhaul education is great. I agree with his 5-Pronged Plan and think it will help improve education. His idea to toughen testing standards is something that I believe will motivate students to succeed. The only thing I am worried about is how much this plan will cost.

President Obama has yet to disappoint his followers. He managed to increase the central governments power even more... His "brilliant" 5-pronged plan is very weak, especially increasing the number of school days and hours. This will certainly help the attendance rate of I don't know....MPS? Also, if he plans to increase funding to schools that have better results, isn't that discrimination? Well some people may be putting their foot into their mouth over this one, well from what I have seen in class discussions...

I love wanting to change the edu ststem, i just dont like his plan. THe n child left behind act is garbage. and paying good teachers more is garbage....if they are not a good teacher....fire them, or make them better teachers by giveing them a better edu. Charter schools....i dont no much about it, but it does not sounds nice. and i do like step 5...the pell grants....more money for college!!!

I think that it is a pretty solid plan of what to do to make our education better. The extra money will help motivate schools to make us do better. I also agree with just about everyone else when I say its interesting that he is almost challenging the teacher's union. I think its good and I'm happy that I won't have to deal with the longer days and school years!

I think President Obama's objectives to change education towards higher goals is a good thing. The program has had more success this year than the past 10 years. I like the idea of not just measuring test scores, but attendance, graduation rates and learning climate too. Proposing for more intensive acts towards failing schools could be beneficial to all. The failing schools have the chance to improve, while the other schools that are succeeding will be able to relieve some of the interests that federal government imposes. Improving all students to a proficient level as a goal is important. College courses and requirements are becoming more and more challenging. If students are not prepared correctly, they will not succeed.
