I believe that either the democratic controlled senate or the Republican controlled house is going to have to give in. Since the last stopgap budgets ended 5 days ago it is only time that the senate and the house will compromise on something, like paying all military service men and women during the government shutdown, so hopefully with in this next week. The major issue is over Obama Care, which in order to end the shut down and to reopen parks and bring back 800,000 government jobs, Obama care will be delayed (for now).

If the shutdown lasts for a few weeks, the government will start to encounter deadlines that could be just as damaging. Paychecks to government workers are already postponed, veterans will run out of money for disability and pension payments, pre-school grants will expire and hundreds of kids will be without school, and nutrition clinics will start to close because of money loss. But, if this shutdown doesn't end before October 17th, the debt ceiling will have to be raised because the Treasury department won't be able to borrow any more money. I think that in order to get everything working again, either the democrats or republicans will have to agree on something, either way one party won't get what they think will work best.

I think this government shutdown will last three weeks. I think it will happen here because of the reasons Hannah Brown brought up. I think the Congress is too divided still to be able to reach an agreement quickly. i think each side, Democratic and Republican, is still too stuck on their own party's views to change. However, once this has gone on for a couple weeks, and things like the debt ceiling being raised because of an inability to borrow more money, paychecks to government workers postponed leading to 800,000 angry citizens, loss of money to give veterans disability and pension payments all start to accumulate, then this will be resolved to save the order in our country. I think ultimately ObamaCare will just keep getting pushed back and delayed until it is just removed.

Nice job so far of analyzing the situation and respecting the opinions of others. Remember that proper nouns get capitalized (e.g. Republican and Democrat).

I believe that the current government shutdown will never end as long as Republicans and Democrats can't come to some sort of an agreement on Obamacare. Although this healthcare plan is not the only debate in the Senate and House of Representatives, it is arguably the main reason why Republicans and Democrats can not see eye to eye and compromise. The sad thing is many people I know spend their time debating on whose fault it is for the government shutdown more than debating on why the shutdown occurred. Many people also fail to debate why they believe Obamacare, again arguably the main reason our government shutdown, should or should not be passed, and instead point fingers at who they believe caused the shutdown. Many of these arguments are solely based on the political party that person belongs to, and both sides blame the other for the inability of our government to come to an agreement. In the end I think Obamacare will either be revised, or altogether be thrown out to please Republicans. Even with all of these arguments the government always seems to compromise, and in most cases we figure out a way in which every political party is somewhat happy with the end result.

I think the government shut down will last at most about a month. It will still take a little while to come to an agreement because both parties are very passionate about the views they hold. Once it reaches to the point of the debt ceiling starting to raise because we can't borrow any more money, they will have to reach a decision. The shut down may not seem like it affects us much as of right now but it will more and more. This does more damage rather than just coming to a compromise because were substantially losing many things because the National Government controls some essential things.

I believe that the government will be shut down for two or three weeks. Although I think that both the Republicans and Democrats are starting to get on the same page, which is good because it means that they are making some sort of progress, when they both agreed that military personals should get paid during the shut down. Even though they agreed on that doesn't mean they have agreed on much else because the past few days both the Republicans and Democrats have not budged at all. Not only are people not able to work if they work for the government right now; also the debt ceiling may have to be raised if they do not come to an agreement by October 17, causing the country to not be able to pay our debt and this could then cause us to go into another recession that could be worse than the one in 2008. If congress doesn't do anything about the debt ceiling the country will not be able to pay Social Security payments, disability benefits, Medicare payments, military pay, and retiree pay along with not being able to pay interest on our debt. Therefore, during this shut down not only does Congress need to agree on the ObamaCare but also they need to figure out something about the debt ceiling and other issues. I think that ObamaCare is going to be delayed because both groups can't agree on anything and it doesn't look like they will any time soon because they are both holding strong on their opinions. It doesn't matter whether a person is a Republican or a Democrat this government shut down is will be a problem or is a problem that hopefully will get resolved soon, but as of now we have to wait for some sort of agreement between the parties.

I think that one of the great things about the American spirit is that when we have our backs against the wall, innovation usually ensues. The way things are going, I think that a compromise will happen between the Republican House and the Democratic Senate. In the end, I don't think that the Affordable Care Act will be funded at all due to the Republicans being fundamentally opposed to the idea of government control in the social aspects of American life. I believe a compromise will occur hours before the government defaults on October 17th. I think the compromise will consist of this; Republicans will receive a bill that says Congress will be able to check and change spending on federal projects even more so than it does now in the system, while Democrats will be able to erase the debt ceiling all together. Neither side will be completely happy and most of the American public would most likely be disgruntled, but the crisis will be averted until another date in the near future where this reoccurring cycle will begin again.

The fun aspect of this is the question of, "When will the United States, or a country such as the United Kingdom, pay off its debt and how?" along with what the benefits of paying off that debt may be.

I think the government shutdown will be over by October 17th. The government is going to have to have an agreement by that day because of the debt ceiling breach. If congress doesn't vote to increase the amount of money they can borrow they won't have enough money to pay their bills. So they have that crisis about to happen and the government being shutdown isn't helping it at all. So one of the sides is going to have to compromise what they want. After all, this country was formed on compromises made in the Constitution.

I think that the shutdown will last for a month at most. If it lasted for longer, there could be damage done economically. People are already feeling the affects of the shutdown, since government workers (among others) aren't being paid, or provided with what they need. Hopefully the Republicans and the Democrats can reach a compromise as swiftly as possible, so that this shutdown doesn't last for a month. However, they'll probably go back to debating the exact same things after the government is reopened.

I think the government shutdown will last for about a month. The Republicans will soon realize that disagreeing will begin to effect our economy and the American People. If it continues, not only will or economy plummet, but we will reach other conflicts that will begin to stack up. If nothing is done soon, things are only going to get worse.

Unknown said...

I believe the government shutdown will last for however long Democrats and Republicans decide not to compromise. I don't see an end in sight within weeks because both sides are still playing the blame game. It doesn't help that Health Care is much of the dividing issue, along with many others, but Health Care is currently what most of the talk is about. Also, a budget won't pass in the near future because the House is controlled by Republicans, and the Senate is controlled by Democrats. This means that even if one of them can manage to get a bill moving, the other could very easily shut it down. Hopefully the politicians will compromise quickly because of the chaos this is all creating. It does not help us economically, and it could get worse if they pass another short-term plan that ends up costing us more money (in the long run).

Anonymous said...

I believe the government shut down will last about 3 weeks because if it were to last any long I feel there will be some economic issues that may arise that neither side wants the government to have to go through. Although I do not believe they will ever agree on the affordable care act, I think that one side will realize that there are more important things that they need to focus on and will agree to the other side and move on.

Unknown said...

I think the government shutdown will last for more than a month. The 800,000 workers that are out of jobs are not the ones that make the ultimate decisions; however, they do have the power to voice their opinions to their representatives. I think after a month the pile up of complaints from furloughed working citizens will become enough that a change will be forced to be made. I think both parties are very set on their beliefs and it will take something very substantial, like these 800,000 workers or the many governmental damages due to deadlines being missed to get one side to swing to the other. I think with an increase in public notification and press releases about public opinion, the negativity against this issue will exponentially increase. When worse comes to worse I think the government will pull through and the Republicans will give way to the Democrats to save the people and the country.

Anonymous said...

It seems to me that neither side is going to give in soon. I think the government shutdown will last almost one month. The Democrats and Republicans agree on a few matters such as paying the army and possibly retroactive pay, but they do not agree on key issues such as the new Healthcare plan. Although both parties are receiving insults, they are sticking to their initial arguments and won't compromise. The debt ceiling date is coming up in the near future which will cause many more problems with much large consequences. I imagine that both parties want the government shutdown to have ended by October 17. That will allow them to focus on the next issue at hand. To end the shutdown I think the Democrats will agree to have ObamaCare delayed. This could hurt the Republican image, but the party will be happy and the government will be able to move forward again.

I think the government shutdown will last about another month, by this time i feel that both sides to begin to realize that this shutdown will begin to hurt our economy even more. If this shutdown continues our economy is going to be in even bigger defecit than we already are. If Congress doesn't end this shutdown soon they will have to try to get a higher budget to pay off the bills that are piling up during the shutdown. Also, if this doesn't come to agreement soon it will change many families lives, such as unemployed workers, veterans with disabilies and pre-school grants will expire, and kids will be without school. This shutdown needs to complete in the next few weeks. This is why i think the shutdown will end soon.

Nick Berger said...

The government shutdown will continue to occur until both sides compromise. Compromise has happened on specific issues such as paying the army, but both parties still must make some movement regarding Obamacare. Considering there are larger events that Congress must face in the near future; I believe that a compromise will come together within the next two weeks. Pressure from the 800,000 unemployment, and Americans should hopefully increase productivity, and the US government will end it's shutdown.

Anonymous said...

I think the shutdown will last three weeks. I think that one of the sides are going to have to give in and compromise with the other. They will not want the government being shutdown for a longer time since it is not good for our country and economy. The Democrats and Republicans will soon compromise because they know there are more problems then Obamacare.

Unknown said...

I Believe that the government will be back up and running within a month. Neither the Republicans or Democrats will come to terms with each other. That being said They will probably both have to agree and delay putting healthcare or "Obama Care" into effect. If they don't the United States will be facing much more serious problems because the debt-ceiling deadline is coming up. If the government isn't up and running again by October 17th we could all be in trouble.

Unknown said...

I think that the government shutdown will last 2 more weeks. At about that time both parties will realize that something needs to get done and they will both lean in and agree with a bill. One party will not like the outcome but it will happen. The public views of both parties are going down and putting pressure on them to act soon. Also all of the workers furloughed will want to go back to work and push for the government to reopen. All of the pressure will force one political party to snap and agree with the others conditions and end the shutout.

Unknown said...

I think that the government shutdown will end fairly soon. Both parties are going to realize eventually that they are doing no good to the economy and its people. They are only causing confusion and many disgruntled people. Eventually, the Democratic and Republican parties will compromise on something. I do not think the Republicans are going to get what they want, but they will have to give in some way or another. I do think this cycle of shutdowns and arguments will continue in later years though, it will be a never ending cycle. They are always going to have to come up with a continuous plan, because both parties will never agree upon the same thing. But that is what makes our government, every party has their opinion on what they think will help benefit the citizens of the U.S. the best.

I would be shocked if the shutdown lasts longer than October 17. I can’t see it ending before that date, the only way either side will budge is if there is something on the line. The Republicans have been the only ones compromising, Obama flat out saying that he isn’t compromising on the issue is just ridiculous. I can’t imagine that the Republicans take much of a hit from this, with him saying things like that. I can see a compromise coming out for the debt ceiling. There will be more issues than just Obama Care on the table this time (Social Security, Medicare, tax code reform, ext.). John Boehner doesn’t want the “clean continuing resolution” he feels that it is ineffective. I agree one hundred percent, we can’t keep crawling along here, there needs to be cuts, reform and compromise. Barrack Obama needs to be willing to negotiate.

Unknown said...

I think both sides are still too stubborn to agree to do anything. I don't think anything will get done until the October 17th deadline. By the time the deadline comes around there will be an enormous amount of pressure on the representatives to quickly come to an agreement. Only under this pressure will both sides realize the importance of ending the shutdown. Ultimately I think they will agree to delay Obamacare so that the government can be reopened.

I think the shut down will only last at most 3 more weeks because by then both parties will be pressured heavily by citizens to come up with a solution. Also, like everyone else said, without government control a lot of funds will shut down too, which will leave a ton of angry people.

After reading up on what could happen if the government shutdown lasts for weeks, I believe that either one side is going to give in, or a whole lot of people are going to lose a whole lot of money. But to choose a side, I don't think we'll be seeing the end of this too soon. I think there's too much concern in Congress about each side's opinions and not enough concern about how many people are actually put in huge inconveniences because they can't agree. The problems have already been pointed out several times, but it doesn't seem like anything has changed, which is why I'm not too ecstatic about this shutdown coming to an end any time soon. I think we've still got some waiting out to do before one of the parties swallows their pride and comes to a conclusion for the sake of the 800,000 out of work right now and everyone else whose money is floating around somewhere or not being given to them at all.

I know the republicans won't commit political suicide at let this reach the debt ceiling deadline. Knowing this I don't think the democrats will give the Republicans any compromise on obamacare reform especially with the stance Harry Reid and Obama have taken on the issue. I could see this shutdown style of politics resuming next CR depending on the thoughts of the Republican leadership. Chances are Harry Reid and Obama won't let any compromise happen with obamacare reform as long has he is in power.

Unknown said...

I think that the Democrat controlled Senate and the Republican controlled House of Representative will come to an agreement before the October 17th deadline. I think that the problem is that the President is unwilling to negotiate. Since he has blatantly said that he is unwilling to negotiate on this issue, it is easy to blame the shutdown on him since the Republicans have offered compromises. Eventually I think that the President will have to start negotiating otherwise he will completely lose public support. For these reasons I think that they will agree to have Obamacare delayed. It will probably happen just before the October 17th deadline because that is when tensions to come to some sort of an agreement will run most high.

Anonymous said...

I think that the government shutdown will end before the October 17th deadline. I feel like both sides will come to a consensus because they know if they do not do it, it will do more harm than good. If the shutdown were to continue past November 1st people might not get their Social Security payments, disability benefits, Medicare payments, military pay, and retiree pay. If both side do not make a compromise we will increase our debt and we may never be able to get out of it. As much as one side may not want Obamacare they have to look at the bigger picutre and not focus on one thing.

Unknown said...

I believe that this situation is much like in the recent AT&T vs TMJ4 debacle. Neither side is willing to give in as it currently sits. It is unpleasant for both sides yet still tolerable because both the house and senate is still getting paid, but just like TMJ4 had the NFL as an ace up their sleeve making AT&T give in, the republicans have the debt ceiling. I believe that the democrats may have to give in if they want the government to not default on their debt.

Anne Mark said...

A compromise is meant to allow competing factions to gain some--not all--of their objective to ensure that progress may be made in the joint endeavor. When one considers the agendas of the Democrats and Republicans, it is easy to see why no action has been taken: the fundamental beliefs of each party differ radically. This to the point where concessions are viewed as weak willed and consistent with not reelection. These considerations do not bode well for the economy, whose demise is already evident in the stock market drops since the governmental shut down.
While the downturn of the economy may spur Congress toward resolution, I believe that there is no compromise on the horizon.

Unknown said...

Obviously, the government shutdown will last until a compromise is reached between the Democratic and Republican parties. It currently does not appear that there will be any form of agreement in the near future between the Senate and House; each party is firm in their political beliefs. However, if all goes well, I believe the government will reach a compromise before the October 17th deadline. If not, even more economic damage will ensue, as a raise in the debt ceiling will be a result of the Treasury losing the ability to borrow more money. Other impacts would include the continued lack of paychecks received by both the 800,000 government employees and veterans. This could also eventually include disability, military, and Social Security payments. This money is going to build up fast, and if the government does not act quickly, the nation may delve into insurmountable debt. In the grand scheme of things, I truly believe that ObamaCare should be put on hold (for now) so the government can approach the greater problem at hand.

I believe the government shutdown will end very soon. If I had to guess, I would say before Thanksgiving. I believe this to be true because our government doesn't want the citizens to be worried that we're running a country without a stable government. Therefore, the government will make sure everything's running as soon as possible because the sooner the better.

I think the government shutdown will last for a little while longer. If I had to guess, the shutdown will most likely last a few more weeks. Whenever the government is presented with a difficult situation, some sort of compromise is usually formed. The compromise that will end the shutdown may or may not be in the best interests of the people. Hopefully the end of the shutdown will provide some sort of benefits to everyone in the U.S.

Anonymous said...

I don't think the government shutdown is going to last very much longer. Maybe it will last a few more weeks. I think that those who are said "forcing" the government shutdown will realize that it is only going to cause outbreaks from citizens that receive income from the federal government. Not only this, but our already hurting economy will worsen. Sooner than later the government will be up and running again.

Unknown said...

I think that the government shutdown will last until the day before the debt ceiling must be raised. Defaulting would be so disastrous to the economy that I don´t think that even this congress would let it happen. I predict that there will be some kind of grand bargain that will raise the debt ceiling and fund the government. There will probably be some concessions by both sides, and likely only the moderates will vote for it, with both the tea party and the far left voting against it. The longer the shutdown goes on, the more the incumbents'approval ratings go down, so I think that they will be looking for a way out of the shutdown soon.

Unknown said...

The government shutdown will probably continue for a few weeks because a form of compromise between the Democrats and Republicans hasn't been reached yet. At this point the Republican compromise efforts have not been reciprocated or developed more by the Democrats. Republicans are blamed for causing the shutdown, but President Obama's firm stance against compromise with the Republicans heightens the risk of a prolonged shutdown and potential default if a consensus can't be reached.

Unknown said...

I think the government shut down will last a substantial amount of time (a few weeks to a month) because people have to make up their minds sometime soon and they realize that they're affecting our nation greatly. The amount of money that the shutdown is causing the goverment will keep rising, including the money they owe all goverment workers. Both parties are very ardent about their views, but they will eventually reach a decision in due time.

Unknown said...

I think that the government shutdown will take quite a while to fix, because both political parties are unwilling to compromise. My guess is that it will be a few weeks to maybe a month before the government is up and running again, or federal employees are going to not have any money to spend which potentially could lead to a recession.

Unknown said...

I think the shutdown is going to last until the people who are arguing see how damaging the government staying shut down for a long time can be for our country. It is going to effect more and more citizens the longer it stays shut down. Once the Republicans and Democrats relize this I think they will come to a conclusion. I also think both sides need to be a little more understanding and compromise because where it sits right now it doesn't seem like either side is going to budge, causing more problems for our country. I think that they will come to a conclusion when the debt celling starts to rise, so a little after October 17th.

Unknown said...

The shutdown gets increasingly worse with time. Tourism will be among the first hit because parks will close and tourists will no longer be able to get visas. Back in the Clinton administration, one government shutdown lasted 5 days- and another one lasted 3 weeks. Each party is watching to see which side is going to get blamed for the shutdown this time- and whichever side is losing will determine when the price has gotten too high and the government has to re-open. Federal workers, about 800,000, have been furloughed, and are not paid during the shutdown. It is obviously affecting more people than we think. Anyways. Back to the question. My predictions for what will happen next are a complete guess because government shutdowns in the past have not been quite "similar" to this one, and they don't occur very often. However, I believe once the shutdown gets to the point where everybody is affected tremendously and Obama care is delayed, everyone will realize there is too much to lose which our country cannot afford to. Jobs which are furloughed cannot stay that way forever. We all have to make agreements. Some say government is the solution to every problem... We're waiting for that solution.

Unknown said...

The government shutdown is a waiting game. It is hard to determine how long it will last. It will end once there can be determined that there is a winner, and right now it is hard to tell who is winning. (at least for me anyway)Eventually the People, the employees of government & voters alike will hopefuly stand up and say something. The imediate future of our country's fincacial well being is at stake. To me and to a lot of people, to fool with such a thing is foolish. The political games are necessary in order to keep a balenced and honest government. yes. However when those games begin to affect the People and hinder the function of the nation, that to me is unacceptable. Hopefuly they can resolve their issues quickly and we can move on.

Unknown said...

I believe that the government shutdown will last no more that another week. If the democrats and republics do not decide on an agreement the country will be in more chaos. Government paychecks are already put on pause and national level businesses, such as parks, are at stake. Without the people these businesses cannot be running. All in all, the country is at a downwards climb, regardless of the shutdown. Without an agreement there will be no happy medium.

Anonymous said...

The government shutdown is heading nowhere as of now because neither the republicans nor democrats are willing to make any compromises. Since the last government shutdown lasted for almost a month, it would not surprise me if this government shutdown lasts just as long or even longer. Each side needs to give a little or the government shutdown will last much longer. Once the nation starts to feel the greater effects of this shutdown, then both sides will feel a more urgent need to get the government back up and running.

Anonymous said...

My predictions for the government shutdown vary. First i think the shutdown could last up to a year without a new federal budget being complete, if that were the case some brief short term budget would most likely be passed but not a new federal cr. The republicans and democrats have yet to reach a resolution and if the republicans do not change their side of negotiation the democrats could stand forever in disagreement of the continuing resolution that was presented by the house to the congress. Another thing that i believe could happen would the negotiation ending soon, before the end of the year. This would probably happen by the conservatives giving in and adjusting the cr so that the democrats receive it better. These are some of the ways i interpret the government shutdown ending, with slight variance i believe the odds of something similar to these circumstances happening.

Unknown said...

I feel like the government shut down will continue for a few more weeks. As long as the two political parties cannot reach an agreement, it will be impossible for the government to return to its normal state. Obama Care will possibly be postponed in order to come to some kind of temporary compromise.

GEORGI LLANAS said...

The shutdown was based primarily on the fact that branches and parties are unable/unwilling to negotiate with each other. There are some blind allegiances to policies and opposition to policies and legislation that is proposed by the opposing party. I believe that this shut down could continue for another month, until interest groups or civil servants begin hounding congressmen to come to a compromise. They will be sick of not being paid and having to dip into their savings to be able to pay bills now.

I predict that, with the previously mentioned pressure of the debt ceiling and negative feedback from the U.S. citizens, the government will likely reopen sooner rather than later, a couple more weeks at most. One side will concede in the name of compromise

I think that the Republican controlled house is going to have to give in. Since the last budgets ended two weeks ago, something with the senate and the house will agree soon, people are going to hurt from this; military, poor people, and lots more. The major issue is the Republicans don't agree with Obama Care, This is forcing people to lose jobs and a lot more, so the government should get this fixed by the next month for the people.
