This blog is a place for us to give our Analysis and Opinions on important topics related to civics, government and politics.
Analysis is a clinical interpretation of items, issues, ideas, or events and an explanation of their impact on the future (i.e. something you think is going to happen).
Opinion is composed of your reactions, feelings, and beliefs on items, issues, ideas or events (i.e. something you would like to happen). Even though they are your opinions, they should be based in fact.
I know a couple of you posted on the previous post, but I thought I would put this here in case there are more comments.
I think your enthusiasm about voting is awesome! And some of you can't even vote yet!
I've been impressed with everyone's enthusiasm for this whole process. It makes us old people feel good about the future.
Enjoy the focus on WI and the added excitement tonight. Realize that the intensity may diminish tomorrow as the campaigns go elsewhere. But stay active, involved, and engaged anyway. Keep reading and listening and talking to people about politics. It's fun.
I voted today too! My wife and I took Jack. He loved the I voted sticker. We took pictures of him at this historic event!
I basically loved getting a little "I voted" sticker. I am probably going to wear it tomorrow because I'm THAT cool. I didn't know this whole process could be so much fun. I've learned a lot, and have enjoyed it!
The old people who were registering/checking people in seemed surprised to see me there. I was glad to say that I was 18 and wanted to vote!!
Did anyone else have a marker that was running out of ink? It bothered me A LOT. I voted, so I can complain :-)
Good, dubious work Alex. In the end, I decided to vote for Huckabee. I like how he can knock down bowling pins on the right AND the left AND the middle. That's change.
The polls in Hawaii don't close till midnight. So i'm having Justin text me the percentages and delegates so I can wake up to the results. I live for political geekiness.
Well let me inform my ap gov peers about the debate that is going on in my household.
Father didn't vote. My mom changed her hardcore Hilary vote to Obama due to the fact that Obama used U2 in his campaign. and for some reason the little twarp (Meghan) just keeps shouting out randon people that she knows.
My dad will randomly come over to me, as I try to read the Civil Rights chapter, and try to start debate with me and question my knowing of politics and the canidate....
I'm winning. but i have a feeling im gonna need some with this debate soon.
How can Mcgee run for election from jail if people who have comitteed a falony can't even vote?
I just found a link on CNN that shows each county's percentages that they voted for each candidate. It's pretty amazing. More people voted in the Democratic race in Waukesha (though i'm sure they got lazy because McCain basically has the nomination), and Obama is leading Waukesha. There's hope for this county yet.
Alex, People support candidates for different reasons. Obama has done many things, but what attracts me to him are his stances on issues. I didn't know who to vote for months ago - Clinton or Obama. I couldn't care less about the difference in time spent in the Senate. I did research on both, followed what they had to say and it's the issues that really attractd me to Obama. I agree with his health care plan more than I do with Clinton's. I look forward to seeing his implementation of Promise Neighborhoods (I think that's what they're called)- strong communities implemented in the toughest inner cities of the U.S. One example = Harlem. Harlem was considered to be the "ghetto" of all "ghettos". It is now the most affluent black neighborhood in the United States because of this program. Though some may argue that it's gentrification in New York that's causing the reduction in crime, I agree to some extent, but this program does work. And to summarize on the Fox News video as a fair representation of American voters isn't just. Mr. Bretzmann, I saw the speech and thought nothing of it. I may have not been attentive because I was doing homework but I have been following Obama's wife and McCain's wife comments today. I think that was something that may have swayed some voters to go vote for Clinton.
Alex- As Vlad said, people support candidates for many different reasons. How many people voted for McCain just because he's not the black guy or the woman? I know why I support Obama. I have concrete reasons, as do a lot of his supporters.
Mr. Bretzmann- My mom actually told me that I was TOO into this election. I told her that's not possible (leader of the free world, most important job in the universe and all). She just rolled her eyes.
I was yelling at both McCain and Hillary giving their speeches. Maybe that is going a little too far...
One last thing, then I'm going to bed. Did anyone else notice in Hillary's speech that she said that "words do matter"? What the heck? I thought you said on Saturday that they don't? Make up your mind!
I know that im a little late but I had to work untill 10:30ish. As soon as 8pm rolled around I was in the back on the computer cheking the returns. Clinton will have plenty of time to cry about how she lost Wisconsin because the next primary is not untill March 4. I think that this win will be part of a major momentum killer for Clinton because untill March 4 all people will talk about is how she lost 10 in a row!
There are plenty of accomplishments in Obama's lifetime. Political achievements? maybe not as many as Clinton or McCain. But it was an accomplishment to be accepted at Harvard. It was an accomplishment for him to become a SENATOR. I won't even continue to list things because I've already listed more than anyone else there.
For all you know, that video could be rigged. There was a huge thing about Fox that they were just bashing him all the time. I bet if they were TRUE Obama fans, and really supported him... they would have things to say.
I personally support Obama because I agree with the majority of his views and I think that this country needs some kind of hope and inspiration for the future.
10 states in a row for Obama. This country wants change.
John, excellent find. I was just about to post that. Funny thing is, the NY Times endorses McCain. So this "endorsement" was a deliberate attempt to get the weaker conservative candidate nominated, then break this story, then have the democratic nominee win. Things are getting heated now! I'm getting the vaporz.
I just saw the story briefly on TV before my wife had to turn on American Idol. I guess it's her turn for a couple of days! I'm about to read the article and I'm thinking that probably the biggest scandal there is the size of McCain's glasses. The most immediate impact may be on McCain's questions about Obama's reported change in accepting public financing. It's hard to say 'you have character issues' when the NY Times is writing about your character issues. BTW I think the 16 year old has been the best Idol so far of the three.

I know this is late, but I haven't been keeping up with my posts at all. I'm not 18 yet, so I couldn't vote. I asked my boyfriend to let me vote vicariously through him since he hasn't made a decision yet, but he was stuck in school all day. I did however text everybody in my phonebook that I knew was 18 and reminded them to vote. My mega conservative father was one of those rotten 'defensive voters' and voted for Hillary, which really threw my brother for a loop. I don't know what else to say. Obviously, I'm pleased with the results.
I was very excited to vote last Tuesday. The results came out just as I thought they would. Obama and McCain. I think this is how it is going to be the rest of the way to August.
Okay, I'm very upset because I didn't get to vote, because I'm still SEVENTEEN! I'm very mad about this. But I did force my lazy cousins to get their butts up and go vote, because they were not planning to. So in a way I feel I voted. Haha
I felt that the outcome of the Wisconsin primary was rather predictable. I knew McCain would win and I cas almost positive that Obama would also be victorious. Obama just put so much more effort into Wisconsin that it was next to impossible for Clinton to win.
I know this post is really past the Wisconsin Primary, but I just thought I would share my opinion. Now that Hilary didn't win here, my hope for her being the democratic nominee is dwindling.
I'm kind of upset that I didn't get to be a part of the primary, but I still have that general election!
Although the Wisconsin primaries are long over, I thought that I would still share my comments. I was really shocked by the final results. Hillary, I thought for sure would have won Wisconsin. With a lot of Catholic and blue collar voters, I thought Wisconsin was her state for sure. This was her state to claim before going into Ohio and Texas. Now, the road is only going to be uphill for her. I think that she could have a good chance in Ohio, but it is going to be close. Ohio seems similar to Wisconsin. If Hillary campaigns there more than a couple of days like she did here in Wisconsin, she might have a chance. Otherwise, Obama seems to be on a roll and this could be threatening to Clinton going into the last primaries.

I voted, so I can complain :-)
I took myself and all that I could get to follow me to cast my vote for hillary...
even though I almost shed a tear as i pushed the button....
by the way, I used a touch screen ballot, it was neat
I'm waiting for Joanna to declare that Senator Obama won WI. I don't want to steal her thunder again. MSNBC just called it with 0% in.
Waiting...
CNN called it!
thank u for not stealing my thunder dr. bretzmann
OBAMA WINS!
Good, dubious work Alex. In the end, I decided to vote for Huckabee. I like how he can knock down bowling pins on the right AND the left AND the middle. That's change.
the real reason I voted for HIllary was because my finger slipped off the Fred Thompson icon...
Fred Thompson IS an icon.
An icon for everything that is right in this country.

I live for political geekiness.
I quote myself from a previous post... "Obama will most likely win Wisconsin."
As Nas once wrote in his 1994 song "The World is Yours", "I'm out for presidents to represent me." That is exactly what I did today.
Oba..
honestly though guys.
i come here to share exciting news, and someone ALWAYS beats me to it. ALWAYS :-(
McCain wins on the republican side.... SURPRISE....haha.
What did you think of Senator McCain's speech?
I didn't listen.
I was watching the results on:
http://news.aol.com/elections/primary/state/wi/democrats
it'd be interesting to see though, i guess.
Go Obama :-)
Obama says,
"Every child is our problem."
????
I guess that's how I feel some days. :)
this should start an interesting conversation at least...
what do you guys think about this...?

PS-- That video came from Fox. We don't trust anything that came from Fox. Duh.
I was going to say that Fox was fine...
but it's hard to tell my sarcasm over the internet.
One last thing, then I'm going to bed.

This country wants change.
Obama wins Hawaii 76% to 24%.
That is ten in a row, and a nice way for me to start the day.
sorry guys,
I should have realized that the other video was from Fox News...
I don't even really watch that channel much...
I should have known...
but just in case that took away from the argument, here is a MUCH BETTER one from MSNBC :)
posted on www.realclearpolitics.com with my experiences has remained pretty neutral...

I couldn't help myself
Erica! I think I know the justification for McGee.
He was CHARGED with a felony.
He has not yet been put on trial yet though....
Innocent til proven guilty. (Or so they say)
If he is convicted of a felony, the process will have to start again.
So I was just watching Hardball with Chris Matthews. It was interrupted by Keith Olbermann talking about John McCain.
Article
Any ideas on how this whole thing is going to affect McCain?
P.S. Just trying to get my own "thunder". :]
My opinion:
It seems that MSNBC is the only station reporting this. CNN and Fox aren't.
I didn't read all four pages of the article, but it seems indirect. Basically, it's probably just exaggerating the whole point.
As much as I would love a huge John McCain scandal, I'm skeptical. I'm going to keep watching though.
I just saw the story briefly on TV before my wife had to turn on American Idol. I guess it's her turn for a couple of days! I'm about to read the article and I'm thinking that probably the biggest scandal there is the size of McCain's glasses. I really love American Idol.
Posts about American Idol would be fabulous. I have to agree with you Mr. Bretzperdaughter. The 16 year old was good.
Alex- That site isn't working for me. It says "Object not found."
None of the idols are very good this year. It's kind of disappointing.
Johnny B didn't like my previous post. I guess I failed to mention anything about politics.
In regards to McCain, I really hope the whole situation turns into a huge scandal. Not because I dislike McCain, but because it'd be funny to watch.
Hopefully I did something right this time. Back to American Idol.
(I think I need to spend less time on the blog)
Okay, you know that "Yes we can" Obama video with all the celebs in it? McCain's got one, too:
Like hope, but different.
Oh please. No. No. No.
No discussions about idol. Or I will zabijać wszyscy.
Just no.
Joanna. Now you've stolen my thunder. I was going to say zabijać wszyscy. I guess I'll just say this: Sanjaya.
Maybe we can bring both sides together with this video:

Obama in fact took wisconsin
HOWEVER
it appears I did rally enough support because Clinton took Muskego :)
It's like I said, "get involved so you can claim victory when it's over!" Well done Alex!
uhh this is old. I don't think I needed a post I think I posted already ummmm yeah
I was excited Obama won like he did. mmm. This still upsets me that I can't vote. My parents didn't even vote. I was ashamed. I got a little snippy.
Mmm. Dinner time.
I just wanted to briefly add a short anecdote that I never posted:
My dad came home shortly after 6:00pm on Primary Day.
He sighs, "I need to sit down."
At this point he kinda scared me with that ominous feeling that comes over you when you know you're about to hear something terrible.
"What?!?!" I asked, haphazardly.
He takes a long breath and states, very bluntly, "I just wasted a perfectly good vote on Hillary Clinton."
~hopefully that made some of you laugh.
P.S: I'm really jealous of everyone who voted. A job well done on exercising your 26th Amendment Rights!
I know this post is really past the Wisconsin Primary, but I just thought I would share my opinion. Now that Hilary didn't win here, my hope for her being the democratic nominee is dwindling.
