Analysis: Does Hillary Clinton need the majority of votes from African Americans to win the Dem. nomination?
I think that Hillary does not need a majority of votes in the African-American community, but does need a significant number of African-American votes to win the Democratic nomination. Unlike Mike and Justin, I do not think that Hillary will so easily get an overwhelming majority of women to vote for her, I know I wouldn’t. I think many women will take a closer look at the issues and what she has done in the past. Many women may feel similarly to the way that I do, that her past judgments, have not been, well, presidential, she was humiliated in front of the entire world, when her husband cheated on her, then lied about it… and what does she do… she stays with him. The African-American community may also be turned off by her recent visit to Selma, AL at the exact same time as Sen. Obama. Sure, Hillary can ride Bill’s coat tails for a while with the Black community, but she also needs to form her own connections with African-American community members. Though her connections from living in the Whitehouse, she will probably stand the best chance at winning a large majority of voters would be in the “old white guy” portion of the population.
P.S. I’d rather vote for Admiral Stockdale, who is DEAD, than Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination (Wait, what am I writing about? Who am I? Why am I on the Internet?)
I believe that Hillary, much like in an election, does not need a majority of every district. I think that at minimum she requires only a respectable minority of the african american vote in order to block her competitors (cheifly Obama for the african american 'district') from gaining a significant lead on her. She can make up a small net loss of the african american vote with the vote of other groups.
Im going to agree with everyone and say that Hilary doesn't need to carry the majority of the African American vote. In my opinion what she would need is a good cross-section like her husband recieved. Also, she is going to get some of the African American vote due to the popularity of Pres. Clinton.

I agree with Mike. I think Hillary will carry the woman vote and get just enough of the African American vote to win the democratic nomination.
