Discuss the timing. Is this part of her overall plan, or is she reacting to the other current political realities so they don't pass her by?
This blog is a place for us to give our Analysis and Opinions on important topics related to civics, government and politics. Analysis is a clinical interpretation of items, issues, ideas, or events and an explanation of their impact on the future (i.e. something you think is going to happen). Opinion is composed of your reactions, feelings, and beliefs on items, issues, ideas or events (i.e. something you would like to happen). Even though they are your opinions, they should be based in fact.

I personally think that Senator Clinton is currently starting to explore a presidential run, in part because that was part of her plan and in part because she wants to keep her name and face in the media, to not be overtaken in “celebrity” status. I think that Senator Clinton is trying to keep the excitement and buzz about having “great newcomer” who could also receive the democratic nomination to a minimum. From my summer reading of David Gergen’s account of William Clinton’s presidency, in the “Eyewitness to Power” book, I found it evident that she is a person that likes to have some control of most situations, and has probably been plotting a presidential run for quite some time. She has planned to try to stimulate debate about the ’08 elections, and the party nomination, since she was elected Senator. Her plan to make her ’08 intentions known, probably depended upon the last midterm congressional elections. After her tremendously successful showing in the midterms, along with the democratic take over of both the house and the Senate, Senator Clinton has seen a glimmer of hope for a democratic president subsequent to the ’08 elections. Senator Clinton beat her nearest opponent by a landslide, 67% to a meager 31%. Senator Clinton may have thought that this large margin of victory, would guarantee her the political spotlight for a while and help her become the democratic front runner for ’08. But with the emergence of Senator Obama, as a possible candidate, and his popularity as an up and coming democratic politician, Clinton’s original plan may have been scrapped. Senator Clinton caught a glimpse of an opportunity to seize media attention, by more or less announcing her entry into the ’08 race, by making it known that she was taking all the right legal steps and putting a lot of consideration into her decision.
I agree with both Megan and Kim that Senator Clinton is starting to explore a presidential run. I believe it is partly due to the increase of the celebrity of Senator Obama but I think she has always considered running. Now, she just wants to maintain her image in the media and with the Democrats sweeping the midterm elections she must be very pleased with the way things for her party are going.
